KUCHING: Early education is pivotal in laying the foundation for the future of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole, said Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Highlighting the importance of early education as the cornerstone of national success, Hazland said, “Early education not only provides an academic foundation but also builds self-confidence, a critical starting point for nurturing future leaders.”

He commended KEMAS (Community Development Department) on its initiatives for empowering children to explore their potential from a young age.

This message was delivered through a speech read by Tanjung Datu assemblyman, Azizul Annuar Adenan, during the KEMAS Preschool Appreciation Ceremony for Santubong parliamentary constituency 2024/2025 session, held at the Penview Convention Centre (PCC) Demak here on Wednesday.

The ceremony celebrated 605 KEMAS preschool children from the Santubong parliamentary constituency, symbolising a vital effort in shaping the next generation of leaders. Six-year-olds from Tanjung Datu, Pantai Damai, and Demak Laut were among the honorees.

Hazland also stressed that early childhood education is a shared responsibility, requiring active collaboration between teachers and parents.

“Teachers are the second parents for children at school, but the continuity of education at home is equally critical. Parents play a vital role in reinforcing the values taught in preschool, shaping children’s character to face the challenges of today’s world,” he added.
