KUCHING: Durian lovers can satisfy their craze for the King of Fruits with the unique concept of durian buffet offered in the city.
Durian trader Kwang said he started the business concept last week after selling for six years in front of a bank at Padungan Arch.
The concept proved profitable as his customers usually came back for more.
Nevertheless, he said honesty was the key to a successful business.
“I also offer additional warranty, guarantee and the opportunity to exchange if the fruits I sold are spoiled.
“I sometimes go as far as Sri Aman to get the best fruits for my customers and the best fruits are from Padawan,” said Kwang when met by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
He also noted that most of his customers came to his stall, Kwang Kampung Durian, regularly.
“The prices are reasonable and my customers usually leave with a smile,” he said.
Meanwhile, for durian lover Hasiah, 52, the buffet concept was good for those who could eat a lot.
Normally, she said, her group could only eat about two or three durians.
“The concept is good because you can take away the fruit packed in a container which normally costs between RM10 and RM15 per container,” said Hasiah.
Anne, 46, opined that the durian buffet concept also could cater for those who were too busy to go out due to their job commitments.
She said for those who were working, the concept was suitable and convenient as they could enjoy the durians after work.
“Most of the city dwellers do not have the time to spend searching for the best durian, and with this kind of concept, they can get the best local fruit and enjoy it instantly without any hassle,” she said.
Hamsiah, 55, on the other hand, said she came back for the third time to Kwang Kampung Durian as the trader offered fresh and good quality durians.
She said she knew about the durian buffet from the roadside advertisement at the stall.
“Beside the buffet, the seller also encourages takeaway which is stored in a container. This is a good thing as we do not have to bring back the thorny skins,” said Hamsiah.
All over Kuching, durian lovers are seen frequenting Kwang Kampung Durian due to the reasonably priced fruits.
