KUCHING: The rate of allowance for the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting should be equivalent to today’s living cost, says Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor.

Aside from stating that the value of RM50 back in 1980 was equivalent to RM300-RM500 today, he added that the allowance should also cover all the duties and tasks given under DUN.

“We have a lot of committees under DUN, hence, the new rate of allowance should also cover (the expenses of) any elected representatives who are in the committees.

“Nevertheless, I agree and welcome the announcement made by the Premier that it was appropriate to increase the allowance for elected representatives during the DUN sitting,” he said today.

For the record, Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad raised the issue in his winding-up speech on Thursday (May 26).
