MIRI: A local man has been arrested for suspected drug trafficking following a police operation here, where authorities seized 30 kilogrammes of cannabis worth an estimated RM93,000.
Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that a team from the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) and the Miri NCID carried out the operation on March 31 at approximately 3.3 pm along Jalan Miri Bypass.
During the raid, officers discovered and confiscated the cannabis, which was allegedly intended for distribution.
A 25-year-old suspect, a local, was taken into custody at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or, if not sentenced to death, life imprisonment with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days by the Miri Magistrate’s Court to facilitate further investigations.
