Drug abusers get RM2,800 fine in default three months’ imprisonment

KUCHING: Two men were fined RM2,800, in default three months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court on Monday (Feb 13) for drugs.

Zien Kekek, 31, and Mohammad Ashref Salleh, 45, pleaded guilty before Judge Zubaidah Sharkawi.

Based on the fact sheet, Zien was found to have taken amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division Office here on Sept 22, 2022.

Ashref was high on amphetamine and methamphetamine when he was arrested at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division Office, Padawan on April 28, 2022.

The duo were charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together with Section 15 of the same Act.

It carries a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine not exceeding RM5,000 and to be placed under immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years, if convicted.

The court ordered both to undergo police supervision for two years after serving out their sentence or paying their fine.

Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case while both accused were unrepresented by counsel.
