Driver, passenger injured in midnight collision

KUCHING: A driver and his passenger were injured following a two-vehicle collision along Jalan Stutong Baru, here today (Sept 17).

The accident happened around 12.45 am involving a Perodua Axia carrying two locals, and a Proton S70 driven by a Chinese national, a 35-year-old woman.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station were dispatched to the scene following a a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found the 34-year-old Axia driver with minor injuries while, his 40-year-old passenger sustained severe injuries.

The driver was rescued from the vehicle by passers-by while the passenger was extricated by the rescue team. Both men were later rushed to the hospital for further medical treatment.

The Proton driver escaped unharmed in the collision.
