JULAU: A man was killed, while his passenger sustained injuries, after their pickup truck crashed along Mile 11, Jalan KJD on Monday (April 21).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Bintangor station were dispatched to the scene — about 59km away — following an emergency call at 3.20 pm.
Upon arrival, they found a Toyota Hilux overturned against the road barrier, with the driver trapped inside. The team used a crane to lift the vehicle and facilitate the extrication.
The driver, identified as Ricky Walter, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was later handed over to the police for further action.
The male passenger, whose identity was not immediately known, was pulled from the vehicle by members of the public.
He was rushed to the Julau health clinic for further medical treatment. The extent of his injuries remains unknown.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team concluded the operation at 4.30 pm.
