Driver escapes after car catches fire

MIRI: Fire broke out in the engine compartment of a this morning causing about 70 per cent damage to the vehicle.

The incident happened adjacent to a Chinese cemetery area in Riam.

According to Zone 6 Miri Fire and Rescue department acting chief, Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee, an emergency call on the fire was received at 4.31 am.

“No injuries were reported in the incident as the driver managed to escape in the nick of time before his car got engulfed in flames,” he said.

Eight firemen from Lopeng Fire station arrived at the scene about 13 minutes later.

The fire was successfully brought under control within 10 minutes.
