SERIAN: A saloon car driver involved in an accident with a pick-up truck at KM43, Jalan Kuching-Serian, on Sunday (Mar 16), has succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Serian Hospital.

The crash, which occurred around 10am, involved a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Hilux.

Serian police chief DSP Neil Beginda said that the victim, Casey Chang Kai Seng, 20, was pronounced dead at 11am due to internal injuries.

His body is currently at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

“The Corolla’s passenger, a 25-year-old man, sustained severe injuries to his right leg. The Hilux driver, 60, suffered serious spinal injuries, while his passenger, a 54-year-old man, sustained minor injuries to his right leg and left hand.

“All three are still receiving treatment for their injuries,” he said in a statement.

Investigations revealed that the Corolla, traveling from Kuching to Serian, skidded out of control while navigating a corner and crashed into the back of the Hilux.

The impact caused the Hilux to spin, skid, and hit the left road barrier before plunging into a ravine. Meanwhile, the Corolla also veered to the left and slammed into a cement wall at the end of the bridge.

Neil added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
