SARATOK: A group of young entrepreneurs stood out in striking fashion on the first day of Ramadan at the Ramadan Bazaar here much to the surprise of visitors.
Despite Eid being weeks away, these traders, representing the popular beverage brand Kupi Susu X Teh Ais Madu 3, proudly donned full Baju Melayu attire, complete with samping and songkok.
Their dapper appearance immediately captured attention, adding a festive flair to the bustling bazaar.
The mastermind behind this eye-catching strategy is Azwan Ariff Mohd Azman Hii, the 32-year-old owner of Kupi Susu X Teh Ais Madu 3.
His staff, exuding confidence in their traditional outfits, eagerly kicked off the first day of trading.
“Presentation matters,” Azwan told Suara Sarawak.
“Every year, my team and I strive to do something different from other vendors. This year, we chose a simple yet impactful theme that embodies the spirit of both Ramadan and Eid — our team wearing full Baju Melayu with samping and songkok.”
He believes that standing out visually helps attract customers, making their stall a must-visit.
“As you can see, only Kupi Susu X Teh Ais Madu 3 has taken this approach. If this trend catches on, it will undoubtedly boost sales,” he added.
Azwan, who founded Kupi Susu X Teh Ais Madu 3 seven years ago, is no stranger to viral marketing. His business has previously gained traction on social media, with thousands of shares and likes each Ramadan.
This year, the brand is offering 10 varieties of drinks, categorised into three distinct series — Gula Apong Series, Creamy Series, and other signature beverages.
“Customers can enjoy cendol gula apong and cha bang ang gula apong, among others,” Azwan said.
“Our signature Kupi Susu and Teh Ais Madu 3 are handcrafted recipes we’ve perfected over the years, not something sourced from any franchise.”
Some drinks are exclusively available during Ramadan, making their stall a must-visit for those seeking a unique taste experience.
Azwan’s entrepreneurial journey began after he graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) in 2017.
“I started my business full-time in 2018, beginning with a single kiosk. Within a year, I expanded to three outlets across Saratok,” he said.
Now in his fourth year of participating in the Ramadan bazaar, Azwan is grateful for the steady growth of his business and a loyal customer base.
“The income has been promising, as many customers now recognise Kupi Susu X Teh Ais Madu 3,” he said.
Beyond business success, Azwan hopes this Ramadan will also bring spiritual blessings.
