DRAKE surprised fans by contributing US$10,000 to the winner of a lookalike contest held in his honour. The event, organised by Casuals Cakery, took place on Saturday in the rapper’s hometown of Toronto.
The bakery had initially planned to award a bottle of Hennessy and a pack of Backwoods cigars as prizes, but Drake upped the stakes after hearing about the contest. He reached out to the bakery via Instagram, writing, “I’m adding 10 bands to the lookalike contest,” referring to the cash prize.
Casuals Cakery shared their excitement by posting a screenshot of the interaction, responding to Drake with: “Just give me a moment to stop hyperventilating… I can’t believe this is your account and you know about this! Oh my God, I love you.”
While Drake didn’t attend the event, he shared clips of the contest on his Instagram stories, adding laughing emojis and the caption, “I love this city.”
The competition featured fans dressed as their best Drake-inspired versions, judged on creativity, style, and overall vibes.
The standout winner, 21-year-old Makayla Chambers, wowed the crowd and judges with her braided pigtails, baggy fleece jacket, and a drawn-on beard. Her performance earned the loudest applause, securing her the grand prize.
“It feels amazing,” Makayla told The Toronto Star. “It feels like I’ve made it.”
Lookalike contests are growing in popularity, with fans of celebrities like Dev Patel, Timothée Chalamet, and Glen Powell often competing to see who best embodies their favourite stars. But thanks to Drake’s generosity, the Toronto event has set a new bar for prizes and fan engagement.
