KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian has raised alarm over an artificial intelligence (AI) “deepfake” video that cloned his image and voice, falsely portraying him as endorsing a non-existent cure for arthritis.
In a Facebook post, he revealed that the video, currently hosted on a Facebook account named ‘Ilike Fitnesss’ features a fake ‘Dr. Sim’ alongside a fake version of Malaysian singer Jaclyn Victor.
The duo is shown giving testimonials about a fictional formula that supposedly cures arthritis permanently.
“There is no such thing. This video not only promotes false medical information but also scams social media users by selling illegal and potentially harmful fake medical treatments,” he said.
Dr. Sim said scammers used AI technology to mimic his voice and image, repurposing footage from a 2020 interview he did with TVS.
He urged the public to stay vigilant in the age of AI and social media.
“This is certainly not the first, nor will it be the last,” he added.
