KUCHING: Ridiculous! This is exactly Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah’s reaction to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s comment that it is unconstitutional to promote Malaysia as a multiracial country.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president said the latter’s remarks just sounded absurd.
“He (Dr Mahathir) is lost. He has forgotten that despite serving as the nation’s prime minister twice, Malaysia is a multiracial country and not a country just for the Malays,” he told New Sarawak Tribune today.
He was prompted for comments on Dr Mahathir’s recent remarks which reportedly said that it is unconstitutional to promote multiracialism as it runs afoul of the Federal Constitution.
Abdul Karim, who is the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, reasoned that the two-time former prime minister’s recent racial remarks could be due to his old age which would have affected his mental faculties.
“Coming from a 90-plus old man… I can only presume that he is under a severe bout of dementia when he gave this comment.
“Dr Mahathir must have forgotten to take his pills when he made that remarks. I pity him,” he said.
