KUCHING: The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development will apply for special assistance from the federal government if additional costs crop up to implement the projects in the state.
In stating this, minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi pointed out that such assistance may be needed as the cost of construction materials is increasing in addition to the transportation cost to bring supplies to rural areas.
Furthermore, he added that there are several projects that had been planned for a long time but could not be implemented due to the need for coordination.
“That is why, we (KKDW) are committed to implement what has been planned. And if there are any extra costs, we will apply for assistance from the federal government.
“To ensure the projects progress, we will monitor their implementation through the technical committee represented by the KKDW and the state government,” said Ahmad Zahid, who is Deputy Prime Minister, after chairing a coordination meeting between the KKDW and Sarawak government here Tuesday (Mar 7).
He disclosed that there 60 matters were discussed during the meeting, among them on the coordination of infrastructure projects.
“It is critical that the Sarawak government and KKDW take proactive actions for the federal government to implement the projects here.
“This is because these projects are needed to meet the needs of the people in the rural area,” he said.
