Who doesn’t love doughnuts? With their sugary glaze, vibrant colours, and endless flavour possibilities, they’re a treat that never gets old. Now, Kuching’s sweet-toothed residents have something exciting to look forward to.
A taste of Greece right at home
Dotnuts has arrived at The Spring Shopping Mall, and it’s already creating a buzz. Authentic Greek doughnuts are a rare find in Kuching, and for dessert lovers, they offer a unique and irresistible treat. Promising to be the new hotspot for both locals and visitors alike, Dotnuts is set to elevate the city’s dessert scene.
From quirky toppings to mouthwatering fillings, Dotnuts is taking doughnut culture to a whole new level. Whether you’re after a nostalgic bite or something fresh and daring, this place has something to satisfy every craving.
The Sarawak Tribune reached out to Dotnuts Meraki Sdn Bhd’s chief executive officer (CEO), Brenda Kua, to learn about her inspiration for starting a doughnut business in Kuching.
“This is my first time running an F&B outlet, and I’m excited to do so here in Kuching.
“To ensure I have a thorough understanding of the industry I’m venturing into, I’ve attended both online and offline classes.
“I’ve also sought guidance from industry experts, big brands, and corporate companies, all of whom have shared valuable insights and knowledge about running a successful F&B business,” she said.

Desserts that bring love and joy
At Dotnuts, they have introduced this special Greek-inspired doughnut to the city, giving both locals and visitors a chance to indulge in something truly unique.
With their soft, pillowy texture and a variety of delicious toppings, these doughnuts are sure to stand out in the local dessert scene, making Dotnuts the perfect place to experience this one-of-a-kind treat.
“What motivated me most is knowing that every product and service we create brings a little more love and joy into the world,” Brenda said.
She shared that her goal has always been to build something that not only serves a need but also nurtures kindness and connection within the community.
This was evident in the warm hospitality of her staff, who welcomed and engaged with every curious customer eager to try the new doughnut shop.
An unforgettable experience
During her travels through the sun-soaked streets of Greece, Brenda discovered a passion for authentic Greek yoghurt — its rich, creamy texture and tangy taste won her over.
But there was something else that caught her attention during the trip, something she couldn’t forget even after returning to Malaysia: the Greek doughnut.
As she enjoyed the local Greek delicacies, Brenda found herself particularly drawn to these delightful treats.

“When I came back to Malaysia, the only food I truly missed was the Greek doughnut,” she shared, recalling the special treat that had stolen her heart.
It wasn’t just the unique flavour that left an impression on Brenda but the experience of savouring something so simple yet so indulgent.
“The crispy outer layer, the soft, fluffy interior—there’s nothing quite like it,” she said, remembering the feeling of biting into one, still warm from the fryer.
Inspired by her travels, Brenda decided to bring the authentic Greek doughnut to Kuching.
She envisioned a place where dessert lovers could experience a little piece of Greece without needing a passport.
Now, with Dotnuts, Brenda’s dream has come to life. For anyone craving that unique, authentic flavour, there’s no need to hop on a plane to Greece — they can simply head to The Spring Shopping Mall and enjoy a taste of Greece in every doughnut.
Doughnut lovers can indulge in the ultimate doughnut experience with Dotnuts’ irresistible creations — Nutty Fella for Nutella lovers, Bueno and The Beast for chocolate fanatics, and Pistachios for nut connoisseurs. Each bite is a little piece of heaven.
“You must try our Pistachio Greek doughnut! Our ingredients are imported from Greece,” she said.

Hurdles and challenges
“We plan to expand our business both across Malaysia and internationally,” Brenda shared with a confident smile.
It’s no easy feat, but the ambition is clear. But building and growing a brand means navigating new territories while staying true to its roots — something Brenda is determined to do.
The first step? Building a strong local foundation.
“We focused on getting everything right at home,” she said. By perfecting quality and ensuring consistency, Brenda knew that a solid base would allow them to scale without compromising what made Dotnuts special.
With the local market thriving, the next challenge would be looking beyond Malaysia’s borders.
“We did our homework,” Brenda explained. The team researched international trends, customer preferences and market needs to ensure their product would resonate with global audiences.
Partnering with reliable distributors was the key to taking the next step.
“We didn’t rush; we took our time to build partnerships and we found people who shared our vision,” Brenda said.
These partnerships allowed Dotnuts to expand at a steady pace, maintaining quality and authenticity in every new location.
Looking forward, Brenda is excited about the brand’s growth.
“We’re taking it one step at a time, but we’re in this for the long haul,” she said.
Dotnuts’ journey is just beginning, and with each new market, they’re ready to share their passion for authentic Greek doughnuts with the world.
