KUCHING: Only Sarawakians can decide what is best for Sarawak and her people, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“After the week-long political turmoil in the country, I want Sarawakians, I want the Chinese, to think rationally. Your vote in 2018 (the 14th general election) is a lie. Don’t fall into that again.

“If you repeat the same mistake, you are stupid. It is time to focus on Sarawak,” he told reporters when met during the Multi-Religious Harmony Forum at the Sarawak Islamic Information Centre here yesterday.

Dr Sim, who is also the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, asked Sarawakians to gauge what Pakatan Harapan (PH) had done for Sarawak while in power for the past 22 months.

“I want Sarawakians to realise that and remain united and move forward on the right track…we can no longer depend on the federal government,” he said.

“Which is why after 2018, Sarawak is smarter than before and because the federal government reduced allocations to Sarawak, the state had to find its own ways to generate more income and was able to allocate a development budget of RM10 billion a year.

“So give us (Sarawak government) another two to three years, we should be able to double our revenue. And we are going to be strong and prosperous and share it with everybody.

“If KL (Putrajaya) works with us, it is double bonus. But if they don’t, we are going to be strong and prosperous anyway,” Dr Sim said.

On the happenings in the country during its difficult times, he asked Sarawakians to look at the characters making use of Sarawak for their own convenience.

“What we want is for Sarawakians to remain united. We cannot be played by them anymore and be divided and will be able to get what we want only if we are united,” he stressed.

He then said the collapse of PH was the doing of those in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Democratic Action Party (DAP).

“Who opened the door first? If PKR and DAP did not create issue for Tun M, I’m sure PH is still around today.

“You ask them to look in the mirror themselves. If people don’t open the door, there would not be front door, back door and window. Meaning to say it is someone from inside that opened the door first and caused all this to happen,” he said.

Dr Sim added that those who created the chaos should blame themselves, not the Sarawak government.
