MIRI: Free rabies vaccinations campaign will be held here on August 19 to 20, from 9 am to 4 pm, at Taman Awam Miri’s parking lot.
Miri City Council Mayor Adam Yii said that during the campaign, not only rabies vaccinations for dogs aged three months and above will be provided, but they will also offer a Dog Licensing Counter and Free Microchip for dogs that are both licensed and vaccinated on-site.
Yii said dog owners are encouraged to bring their identification card for registration and to make sure to have their dogs on a leash.
If a dog is known to be wary of strangers or tends to be aggressive, it’s recommended to muzzle them during the vaccination process.
After the vaccination, it is essential for dog owners to quarantine and isolate their dogs for 28 days.
This period allows the dogs to build immunity against rabies.
During this time, dogs must remain within their home compounds only.
Yii emphasised the importance of rabies awareness and strongly advised dog owners to make sure their pets are both licensed and vaccinated.
In case of a dog bite, Yii advised washing the wound with soap and clean running tap water for at least 15 minutes. After that, it’s crucial to seek further treatment at the nearest government hospital or clinic immediately.
