KUCHING: The Dayaks love to “bejalai”, which makes them easy targets of bogus agents. Pointing this out yesterday, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said bogus agents are wise to the Dayak’s love to see the world in search of greener pastures, so they prey on them with false promises like big salaries and attractive perks.

He said there was nothing wrong with the “bejalai” and seeing the world outside, but Dayaks must be careful and realistic with their dreams.

“If unsure, please check with the nearest YB (elected rep) to find out if companies and agents are genuine ones,” said Masing, when asked for his comment on the six Sarawakians he helped bring home from the Solomon Islands after they faced problems with their employer there.

“On this case, I would like to thank the Malaysian ambassador in Papua New Gunea and Dennis Ngau (Telang Usan assemblyman) for highlighting the predicament of these six Dayaks from Baleh and Baram,” he added.
