KUCHING: The identity of the nearly decomposed body found in a drain at Jalan Setia Raja has been confirmed through a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test as that of Nurul Asikin Lan.

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed that this discovery is linked to an ongoing murder investigation.

“We urge the public not to speculate or spread false information as it may disrupt ongoing investigation.

“Those with information regarding the case, can channel them to the Kuching police operations centre at 082-24444 or senior criminal investigation officer ASP Tan Kian Kok at 010-5661576,” he said in a statement.

The case gained attention after the decomposed body of the 26-year-old woman was discovered in a drain in the commercial area of Tabuan Jaya on Saturday night.

Following the discovery, a 23-year-old local man was arrested and remanded until Dec 22 to facilitate investigations.

Yesterday (Dec 18), Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the investigation is nearing completion and confirmed that that the motive behind the murder was the suspect’s intent to rob the deceased of her gold necklace and earrings to pawn them for money to watch a football match abroad.
