SARIKEI: Vibrant Chinese New Year decorations have been installed at Taman Layang-Layang, Jalan Nenas, here, as part of efforts to enhance the town’s aesthetics during this auspicious celebration.
The decorations, set up at this strategically located and popular gathering spot, are considered the ideal venue to mark the festive occasion and showcase the community’s spirit.
A ceremony to mark the installation of the decorations was officiated by Kapitan Ling Dien Yong, who represented Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, who is also Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman.
According to a press statement, Sarikei District Council (SDC) chairperson, Councillor Wong Zee Yeng, said that SDC funded the Chinese New Year decorations, highlighting its commitment to celebrating the district’s cultural diversity.
She also mentioned that similar decorations would be set up for other major celebrations, including Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, and Christmas, further emphasising the council’s dedication to honouring various cultural festivities.
Also present were SDC Deputy Chairman, Councillor Misiah Abu Seman; SDC Secretary Representative, Susanna Ubong Johnny; council members; Chinese community leaders; and staff from the SDC.
