KUCHING: The number of flood and landslide victims at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across Sarawak continues to rise.
However, two PPS recorded a decrease in evacuees compared to this morning.
As of 4 pm today (March 22), the total number of evacuees due to floods and landslides stood at 1,293, an increase from 1,052 at 8 am today.
In a statement today, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that seven PPS were activated for flood victims.
Of these, two recorded a decrease in evacuees, three saw an increase, and one remained unchanged.
The three flood-related PPS that recorded an increase in evacuees are Dewan Kompleks Sukan Kanowit (191 victims), Dewan Serbaguna Selangau (117 victims), and Balai Raya Song (374 victims).
Meanwhile, Dewan Komuniti Sibu Jaya (59 victims) and Kapit Civic Centre (156 victims) recorded a decrease in numbers.
Asrama Belia Kapit remains with 79 evacuees, while Dewan Sri Baleh has yet to receive any evacuee.
Additionally, two other PPS, Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku in Sibu and Dewan Kampung Sukan in Miri are sheltering 43 and 40 victims respectively, following landslides.
