KUCHING: The state government remains unwavering in its commitment to drive Sarawak’s digital transformation.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state’s digital economy initiatives are designed to position Sarawak at the forefront of sectors such as precision agriculture, e-commerce, and digital governance.

However, he emphasised that the success of this transformation hinges on the active involvement of the private sector.

“We need our local businesses to embrace innovation, invest in emerging technologies, and support the government’s vision of creating a developed economy by 2030.

“I believe that the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) plays a vital role in bridging the gap between the government and the business community.

“Together, we are working towards a prosperous and future-ready Sarawak, where digital growth goes hand-in-hand with economic development,” he said in a text speech read out by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi during the 73rd Gala Dinner hosted by SCCI at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching last night (Dec 12).

He also assured that the development of a world-class digital infrastructure remains one of the state’s top priorities.

“Our investment in information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure will pave the way for the growth of emerging fields such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data-driven industries, attracting both local and international investments.

“While the government’s role is to provide the necessary infrastructure and policy support, the private sector must take the lead in seizing the opportunities that arise.

“Together, we can leverage the potential of our digital economy to create lasting change,” he said.

Additionally, Abang Johari highlighted that a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem requires more than just infrastructure.

“It needs a supportive culture, access to finance, skilled human capital, venture-friendly markets, and institutional backing.

“These elements are integral in fostering an environment where innovation can thrive and new businesses can flourish,” he said.
