KUCHING: Sarawak’s transition towards digitalisation is emerging as a key catalyst for dynamic future transformation, says Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director Datuk Lester Matthew.
According to Lester, the shift not only creates new economic opportunities but also enhances productivity and strengthens the region’s long-term resilience.
“In support of this effort, the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 (SDB 2030) provides a roadmap to realise this vision through digitalisation across sectors, improved service delivery, and the creation of more inclusive economic opportunities that are future-ready.
“Our commitment to digital transformation through the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and SDB 2030 is not merely a policy direction but a strategic move that positions us at the forefront of global change while directly addressing local challenges.
“Around the world, we can see how countries that embrace digitalisation emerge as leaders in resilience, innovation, and competitiveness. The message is clear — the digital economy is not an option.”
Lester said this in his keynote address at the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) Sarawak Congress 2025 here on Wednesday (April 16).
He added that the shift towards a digital-based economy will open a new chapter in both employment and business landscapes.
“This means thousands of high-value jobs will be created, new investments in innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and smart technology, placing Sarawak as a serious digital contender in the Asian region.
“By focusing on digital innovation, talent development, and infrastructure expansion, we are not only building a stronger economy but also ensuring global sustainability and preparing our people for the future.”
