KUCHING: Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) hopes that the Shared Prosperity Vision (SPV) will be shared evenly as the Education Ministry (MoE) adjusts its policies and direction in line with the agenda of SPV 2030.
STU president Macky Joseph said this in a statement in response to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s announcement that the ministry’s policies would be adjusted in line with SPV 2030.
Noting that it was good for the ministry to highlight digital education, he said, “We hope for schools to be equipped with fast-speed Internet access.
“It is a need for schools, especially those in remote and rural areas in Sarawak.
“Emphasising on the Internet of Things (IoT), robotic and coding will not benefit the schools without these necessary facilities,” he said.
Macky further wanted the federal government to ensure basic necessities such as electricity, water and safe buildings at all times to all schools.
“Those schools that are in dilapidated condition are the ones that need to be repaired first.
“Priority should be given to schools both in urban and rural areas, in terms of safety while ensuring a conducive surrounding for students and teachers,” he added.
He said STU looked forward to MoE holding engagement sessions with teachers unions and other stakeholders before implementing new programmes and policies.
