MIRI: A coordinated effort by the Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) of the Tactical Headquarters Marine Police Force, Region 5, led to the interception of a vehicle suspected of transporting contraband diesel fuel on Tuesday.

The operation, codenamed Op Taring Kontraban, was carried out at approximately 2.30 pm along Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram.

A white Toyota Hilux single-cab pick-up truck was stopped and inspected by a team comprising one officer and four personnel.

According to Miri District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the vehicle was found to be carrying diesel fuel suspected to be in violation of the Supply Control Act 1961.

The seizure included the Toyota Hilux, valued at RM75,000, and diesel worth RM3,800, bringing the total value of confiscated items to RM78,800.

All seized items, along with the suspect, have been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Miri branch, for further investigation and legal action.
