SIBU: Diabetes Malaysia Sibu District Branch held its 33rd anniversary celebration with a gala dinner at a prominent hotel here on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, organising chairperson Margareth Wong Ai Yung highlighted that since the branch’s inception on January 31, 1992, it has grown from humble beginnings into a steadfast pillar of advocacy and care in the fight against diabetes.
To mark 33 years of the branch existence, she said it has composed a highly appropriate and meaningful theme ‘Legacy of Hope: 33 Years of service and dedication’.
“Over three decades, we have gone from strength to strength, guided by visionary leadership and the unwavering dedication of our members.
“Their commitment has anchored us to our founding vision, to lead the fight against diabetes in Malaysia, and our mission to promote care through awareness, prevention, education and management.

“Based in the community, we have remained deeply connected to those living with diabetes, ensuring their voices and needs shape our efforts.
“The spirit of volunteerism that fuels our work has never dimmed, enabling us to touch countless lives with compassion and purpose.
“This milestone is not merely a celebration of years passed, but a testament to the legacy we continue to build – a legacy of hope, resilience, and transformative impact.
“To our leaders, members, partners and supporters: your contributions have written this story of service.
“Together, let us march forward with renewed vigour, inspired by the lives we have changed and the future we strive to brighten,” she further stated.
On behalf of the members, Wong thanked the chairman Tiong Kiong King, who has always been the branch’s pillar of strength in the effort to combat diabetes in the community.
During the event, Tiong presented certificates of exemplary service award to members of the executive committee for the 2023-2024 term of office.
