KUCHING: Dewan Datu Merpati Jepang will undergo repairs to improve its functionality and provide greater comfort for the community.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that this matter is important as the hall has been in use for a long time and some parts are already damaged, including the roof and ceiling.
“Therefore, what we will do is replace all damaged roofs, change the hall’s ceiling, and improve the sound system.
“If we sit at the lower part of the stage, the sound is unclear. So, we will improve this problem,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after the handover yearly grant to Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Mosque and Surau in Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency at Dewan Datu Merpati Jepang, Satok here on Saturday.

Earlier, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said he welcomed the development.
“Alhamdulillah, the Deputy Prime Minister whispered to me earlier that there is a need to upgrade this hall.
“This is not something I requested; he himself brought it up… insha-Allah, we will carry out the repair work,” he said.
Meanwhile, regarding the programme held, Fadillah, who is also the Petra Jaya MP, said that there are a total of 87 JKKKs, 30 mosques, and 60 suraus.
“This also involves a total allocation of RM591,000, and we hope it will be utilised in the best possible way.
“It is hoped that this allocation will help the committee implement programmes that benefit the community, especially in organising activities for Ramadan month,” he said.
