KUCHING: Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong has revealed that his Bintulu home is among those severely affected by the recent heavy flooding in Sarawak.

The Hulu Rajang MP said he had to return early to assess the damage and ensure his constituents’ safety.

“I received calls from Ulu Tubau, and the Welfare Department has already sent essential supplies.

“However, we are now relying on boats as the roads to Hulu Tubau are completely cut off,” he said when met by reporters here today (Jan 29).

In response to the crisis, Ugak said his service centre is actively coordinating with the Welfare Department to deliver food and other necessities to affected residents.

Additionally, he noted that his officers had been deployed to assess the situation on the ground and assist with relief efforts.

“Bintulu has been hit by floods like never before, and we are now facing a major crisis,” Ugak said.

He also called for urgent assistance from federal and state agencies and relevant bodies to address the severe flooding in Bintulu.

“I request assistance from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC). Please look into this. We have also requested help from the federal government, APM, Bomba, and other agencies to come to Bintulu, specifically in Hulu Tubau and Hulu Jelalong,” he urged.
