MIRI: Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Customs and Law) Jefferson Jamit Unyat paid an official working visit to Miri Native Court here on Monday.

The main objective of his working visit here was to get direct information about the actual situation as well as the latest developments related to progress and planning of the court.

During the visit, he also had the opportunity to attend a dialogue session with the officers on the problems and common challenges that they faced.

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) news report, among the matters that would be studied thoroughly includes applications for ‘Resident Native Court’ status, magistrates’ allowances, competency training requirements for officers as well as community chiefs (KMKK), the latest status of the Sarawak Native Court as an independent and self-governing judicial unit , Miri Native Court administrative system, office equipment and supplies and staffing issues for District and Resident Court clerks.

Yesterday, Jamit was to continue his working visit to Marudi.

Also present were Acting Chief Registrar of Sarawak Native Court Dahim Nadot, Miri District Officer Siti Rohanie Yusof, Miri Division Deputy Resident Juan Ubit, Penghulu Randi Elon, Miri Division Malay Community’s Temenggong Datuk Abdul Rahman Abang Fadzail, Miri Division Iban Community’s Temenggong Willson Atong Limping and Temenggong Yong Vui Seng of Chinese Community Miri Division.
