KUCHING: The Social Welfare Department Sarawak (JKMS) will travel throughout the state under the Kembara Prihatin Negara programme to channel aid to the needy, especially those who are badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the initiative will not only provide financial assistance but also daily necessities and mobile counters for facilitation.

“In our concern with the plight of some people who are facing difficulties, the government will come forward to provide assistance.

“JKMS, through its mobile team, will go on the ground to identify the affected residents. The team will set up service and complaints counters and address welfare issues to alleviate the burden of those in need,” she said at the launch of the state-level Kembara Prihatin Negara 2020 in Kampung Tabuan Melayu yesterday.

Realising that the current third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic posed greater challenges, Fatimah urged Sarawakians to be the eyes and ears to the welfare department to ensure those who are in difficulties are given adequate assistance.

“The public can help to inform us if they find people who are in need of assistance. JKMS volunteers will facilitate the matter.

“Community leaders and village chiefs too play a crucial role in gathering such information and report to us,” she added.
