KUCHING: Fabian Chew, a dentist and food enthusiast, is the winner of this year’s ‘Kuching For Me 3: Cookout! 2019’. 

He competed with five other finalists in the cooking competition which was held here on Thursday. 

His winning dish called ‘Flavours of Sarawak’ will be exhibited at Saradise’s newly established food mall — the Saradise Edge — scheduled to open soon where it will be the signature dish.

The finale of the ‘Kuching For Me 3: Cookout! 2019’ required the finalists to produce a delectable ensemble of exotic Sarawak-inspired delights. 

The finale was officiated at by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng. 

Wee, in his speech said that the effort of private companies in creating a new signature and local dish is worthy of applause as it benefits the culinary varieties, especially in Sarawak.

“The effort to create the new signature dish will not only add potential colours to the culinary art in Sarawak, but will also unleash the potential of our local chefs,” he said.

He added the effort to create a Sarawakian product not only instils a sense of patriotism in the people, but it also helps to find purpose to celebrate new and fresh ideas which can bring the community closer through food.

“Fresh new ideas will not only generate new income but also improve our tourism sector because we have something new to offer.

“This will also encourage the people to express their love and passion towards Kuching through creative and innovative ways,” he added.

Meanwhile, Saradise Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Chris Chung said they have been involving themselves with the community, especially in the arts, through essay writing and logo designing contests.

“All of these are a way to give back to the community at large and what makes us Kuchingites prouder is to see our fellow Sarawakians get their work appreciated. 

“Our aim to inspire Kuchingites to express themselves through art and try to brainstorm new ideas to create a platform for their work to be exhibited and appreciated by the public in general,” said Chung.
