KUCHING: Will Datuk Wee Hong Seng return for a fourth term as mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS)?
The answer may come soon – but not before the Head of State gives his nod.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian hinted at the possibility when met by reporters after the Diabetes Awareness Campaign at Vivacity Megamall today.
The Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister said the Sarawak government is awaiting the Sarawak Governor’s consent before announcing the full list of councillors and local authority heads.
“Soon, we are waiting for consent from the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, on the full list of councillors and mayors as well as chairpersons in state.
“The list had already been submitted to the Sarawak Cabinet last month.
“I think it is only appropriate to release the list once consent is granted by the Head of State,” he said.
Wee, who took over the MBKS helm from Datuk James Chan Khay Syn in 2019, is approaching the end of his current term.
Pressed on whether any new face would appear on the list, Dr Sim remained tight-lipped.
“Wait for the list,” he said.
