KUCHING: The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) continues to intensify flood mitigation efforts in 18 identified flash flood hotspots.

These areas are frequently affected by heavy rains, especially during the monsoon season.

According to DBKU Mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman, areas of concern include Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi, Lorong Kamaliat, Lebuh Cloud Estate, Jalan Pinang Jawa, Taman Million, and Kampung Pasir Pandak.

“In the last three months, DBKU has conducted intensive drainage maintenance work to ensure smoother water flow,” he said during a press conference following the Flood Disaster Management Operation Preparedness Visit Programme at DEPO @ DBKU today (Dec 24).

He also said that periodic monitoring is conducted to identify the root causes of problems and provide long-term solutions.

“We are working closely with the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to implement technical solutions, including drainage system repairs and installing water pumps at critical locations,” he added.

Moreover, he said that logistics and equipment, including lorries, backhoe loaders, and mobile lights, are ready to assist in rescue operations if needed.

DBKU hopes that with these ongoing efforts, the risk of flooding can be minimised, thereby providing comfort to residents in frequently affected areas.

The public is encouraged to report any flood-related issues via the hotline at 082-446644 or WhatsApp at 016-8864466.
