DBKU eyes collaboration with Kyoto City, Japan

KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is exploring the possibility of establishing cooperation with Kyoto City, Japan in the future.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who expressed this intention, said a delegation from the local authority had recently embarked on a 10-day benchmarking visit to Japan covering Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto and Tokyo.

He said the visit, which concluded on May 2, was to learn about the best practices, latest technologies and sustainable development strategies from the major cities and metropolitan areas of the Land of the Rising Sun.

“We learned a lot during our time in Japan, both through briefings and site visits to various agencies.

“We have also made observations around the city, parks, markets, and public spaces, which many best practices can be adapted for the improvement of Kuching City.

“Therefore, I request that a working paper be prepared for this purpose to be presented to the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) in the near future,” he said.

He said this during the DBKU’s Hari Raya gathering held at UCSI Hotel here last night (May 3).

On a related note, he said DBKU will continue its service delivery based on Clean, Beautiful, Safe, Smart, and Sustainable.

“In line with this, a total of 80 action plans have been formulated for implementation throughout the period from 2023 to 2030,” he said.

Earlier, Abang Johari and DBKU mayor Hilmy Othman were among those who also attended the Hari Raya gathering.
