KUCHING: The newly completed Darul Huda Mosque at Kpg Siol Kandis here is poised to become an important centre for religious activities for the surrounding community besides enhancing spiritual values among the people.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the newly completed mosque, which cost RM5.2 million, on Friday.
The mosque was completed on March 10, 2024 and capable of accomodating over 1,200 congregants.
It is situated on a land area of 4,570 square metres and is expected to become an important centre for religious activities for the surrounding community, thereby strengthening spiritual values among the people.
In the meantime, the project, which began on January 11, 2021 received support from the state government which contributed an additional RM3.9 million from the overall project cost.
An additional fund totalling RM1.3 million was collected through wakaf (endowment) contributions from villagers as well as those outside the village.
The site of the mosque construction was a wakaf of land from the late Tan Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzki and Puan Sri Lily Johari, as well as the late Abdul Rahim Moharif.
At the same event, Abang Johari also witnessed the donation of a hearse van from Yayasan Bintulu Port, represented by the president/chief executive officer of Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad Group, Ruslan Abdul Ghani.
The donation of the hearse van is hoped to assist the mosque in managing funeral arrangements.
Also present were the Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and Federal-State Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, the Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and other distinguished guests.
