KUCHING: In saying that Sarawak will be bankrupt in three years under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the Democratic Action Party (DAP) is practising dirty politics.

This is because a finance minister (Lim Guan Eng in this case) must not politicise the very thing that he is in charge of – the country’s finance.

As it was, Lim sent a wrong message to the people, and investors would lose their confidence in the state’s economy.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said for Guan Eng who is in charge of the country’s finance to say such a thing would send a wrong message to the people and investors would lose their confidence in investing in the state.

“When he said Sarawak will be bankrupt, I see DAP playing dirty politics. ‘Mok madah kotor, kotor juak la’ (indeed it is dirty politics),” said Abang Johari during “Majlis Ramah Mesra Aidilfitri PBB Zon Kuching 2019” at Pullman Hotel last Monday night.

“They (DAP) want to influence the people. I can read his (Guan Eng’s) tactics,” he said.

Abang Johari, who said he had done his homework on the state’s expenditure and revenue, stressed that Sarawak is not “paloi” (stupid).

“If he thought that Sarawak would go bankrupt, claiming that the state only spends, then as he’s the one who is looking after the economy of Malaysia, the country will end up as what he claimed would happen to the state,” he said.

“We don’t use our state’s reserve, we keep it. PBB knows how to find ways of increasing its revenue. Common sense — that is basic economy.”

He said Sarawak under GPS is strong, united, and focused on “delivery” of promised development projects.

“We use political power for development so that Sarawak and its people have a brighter future,” he said.

On the projects cancelled by the federal government, Abang Johari said it does not really matter as Sarawak will use state funds to get them going.
