KUCHING: Sarawak DAP chairman and Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen gave an allocation of RM20,000 to SK St Alban Sg Tapang for it to undergo repairs.

A cheque for the amount was handed over to the school by his special assistant Michael Kong yesterday.

Kong said that since MPs of Pakatan Harapan (PH) were granted allocations in the past couple of years, the people’s representatives had consistently assigned the bulk of the fund for the Stampin Service Centre to schools.

“SK St Alban Sg Tapang is a missionary school established some 65 years ago and the old school block is currently in a state of disrepair.

“This is not only unsightly but dangerous to the students as part of the roof may fall off anytime,” Kong said in a statement.

Kong said UNIFOR had given SK St Alban Sg Tapang some money for its classrooms recently but the sum was for the construction of new classrooms and could not be spent to fix or renovate existing dilapidated classrooms.

“The principal has sought our assistance and we shall write to the Ministry of Education to explore what can be done for this school,” he said.
