BINTULU: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes during Aidilfitri should not be limited to breaking fast events but should serve as a catalyst for more continuous welfare initiatives, says Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee.

He noted that such charitable efforts should be expanded and not confined to festive seasons alone.

According to him, this approach ensures that those in need continue to receive assistance.

“I hope programmes like this will spark more welfare initiatives we can implement together in the future.

“The responsibility to help those in need is a shared responsibility, and I would like to see more parties stepping forward to offer assistance,” he said.

Iskandar made these remarks while attending the Iftar ceremony with orphans, B40 students, and Muallaf, organised by Yayasan Bintulu Port at a hotel here last night.

The Iftar ceremony, held under the Jalinan Kasih Ramadan programme by Yayasan Bintulu Port, also included donations to the Bintulu Orphan Welfare Organisation (Peryatim), 150 new converts from three associations the Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (Macma) Bintulu Branch, the Sarawak Tiong Hua Islamic Welfare Association (Perkthis) Bintulu, and Urusetia Saudara Kita (USK) Bintulu, as well as 100 B40 students from 12 selected schools around Bintulu.

Iskandar also encouraged more corporate companies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support the underprivileged, especially during festive seasons actively.

“Through continuous efforts, we can not only ease the burden of those in need but also cultivate a culture of compassion within our society,” he added.

In addition to breaking fast together, the event was enriched with a special talk by Ustaz Hussein Zainal Abidin, who highlighted the importance of unity and togetherness within a diverse community.

Also present were the president and group chief executive officer of BPHB, Ruslan Abdul Ghani; deputy chairman of Bintulu Development Authority, Datuk Haidar Khan Asghar Khan; and Petros senior vice-president of resource management, Datuk Abang Arabi Abang Narudin.
