KUCHING: A 14-foot long crocodile was shot on the head and its mouth after abruptly attempting to attack a team of police and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).
A total of four policemen and two members from the SFC scouted the 14-foot long crocodile’s nest located by the riverbank near Taman Malihah in Matang.
As the police and SFC team were scouting the area, a total of four shots were fired to the mouth and the head causing the crocodile to turn around and head back to the river.
In a statement by the Padawan district police, it said that the residents spotted the 14-foot long crocodile roaming in the area by the riverbank of Taman Malihah, Matang on Thursday around 3.30pm
“A report was lodged to the police by the complainants after sighting a crocodile located by the riverbank which could harm the lives of residents living in the area,” it stated.
The Sarawak branch of the Department of Wildlife and National Park (Perhilitan) are currently removing the crocodile’s eggs from the scene.
The statement also revealed that the operation would continue today to locate the crocodile’s whereabouts.
The police have advised the public to beware of the possibility of crocodiles wandering out of the river and warn the people not to take matters into their own hands and inform the authorities if they see a crocodile wandering around.
