KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 581 new Covid-19 positive cases, eight more cases than yesterday’s 573 cases.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said with that, the cumulative total in the state now stood 81,328.
No Covid-19 deaths were reported on Sunday (Aug 8).
Kuching reported the highest number of new cases in the state with 263 cases, followed by Serian (84); Sri Aman (42); Samarahan (33); Bau (30); Bintulu (22); Sibu (21); Selangau (16); Tatau (14); Miri (12) and Lundu (12).
Six cases each were reported in Meradong and Asajaya; four in Kapit; three in Pusa; two cases each in Lubok Antu, Subis, Tebedu and Beluru; one case each in Sarikei, Simunjan; Sarotok, Kanowit, and Telang Usan. The rest of the districts recorded zero case.
Of the 581 cases, 269 cases were individuals who had close contacts with Covid-19 positive cases, 109 were individuals from existing active clusters, 52 from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities, 145 from other screenings at health facilities, and three Import B cases (screening of individuals who had just returned or coming from other states) with two from Kuala Lumpur and one from Sabah, and three Import A cases (screening of individuals who had just returned or coming from outside the country) with two from Indonesia and one from Singapore.
As many as 514 cases out of the total cases were asymptomatic while 67 were symptomatic.
The SDMC said 277 patients had covered and were allowed to be discharged from the respective hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) statewide.
This number brings the total number of recovered and discharged patients to 73,226 or 90.04 percent of the total cases.
The committee also said that on Sunday, there were 451 new persons under surveillance, thus bringing the total number of PUS undergoing treatment at the hospitals and PKRCs in the state to 4,749.
