KUCHING: There are four clusters in Sarawak that caused the rapid spread of the Covid-19 virus, says Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said all four clusters were suspected of being imported from outside into Sarawak.

A cluster is from Sri Petaling (religious gathering), one cluster from Sarikei, one cluster from church in Kuching and another cluster might be from Kuching as well.

However, the three clusters in Sarawak are not related to the Sri Petaling cluster, he told reporters after the State Disaster Committee Council meeting on the Covid-19 at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Monday night.

Following the first fatality involving a 60-year-old pastor on Tuesday, Dr Sim said the process of identification on the church cluster was still undergoing.

193 of Pastor David (Cheng)’s close contacts are now under quarantine,” he added.

Meanwhile, the cluster in Sarikei and another cluster in Kuching, he said, had yet been identified.

“The cluster in Sarikei could not be identified at this time because the person is still under PUI (person under investigation) at Sibu Hospital’s intensive care unit.

“But we are almost certain that this case was imported from Kuala Lumpur while the origin of another cluster in Kuching is still being traced.

“We suspect these are imported cases,” he said.
