KUCHING: The rowdy crowds at the Court House here on Tuesday showed a culture which is un-Sarawakian, said Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He said he was shocked and disappointed by the incident.
“This is definitely unSarawakian culture. I hope the authorities would look at it seriously and take the necessary actions.
“Sarawak has been blessed for hundred of years, we have racial harmony and we respect each other’s religion,” he said when met by reporters after the opening ceremony of SUPP Batu Kitang branch at Mile 6 here yesterday.
Sim hoped that this unSarawakian culture would not take root in Sarawak.
“I have spoken to the archbishop. He was glad that there were good Muslims who shielded him.
“I’m sure those unruly crowds were just a small group. I don’t want people to think that Muslims all are like that,” he added.
Sim urged Sarawakians to learn from the incident and to realise why it is important to have a stronger Sarawak.
“We must fight for the sake of Sarawak and stop all this unSarawakian culture creeping into our soil.
“This incident is clearly a demonstration of unSarawakian culture. Let us say no to this new culture and let us all fight for what we have treasured all this while – religious tolerance, racial harmony and respect for one another,” he stressed.
