BETONG: Civil servant feedback is important to ensure all government policies and initiatives benefit the people.

In this regard, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who described civil servants as the bridge between the people, elected representatives and the government, emphasised the importance of their respective roles.

“We, the elected representatives, truly rely on feedback from all civil servants.

“We need to know whether assistance programmes aimed at the people in need, for instance, are truly reaching the grassroots level.

“If not, why? This allows us, the Sarawak assemblymen and Members of Parliament who speak in the Dewan Rakyat, to raise any shortcoming or issue with the government, or perhaps seek ways to improve the mechanisms so that the assistance genuinely reaches the intended groups.

“As the Premier of Sarawak has often said – ketek ajak! (let’s move together!).

“I am confident that with feedback, open discussions, cooperation, unity and a team spirit, we can ensure that all government policies and initiatives will truly benefit the people as a whole,” he said.

Uggah, who is also the Second Minister for Finance and New Economy, made these remarks when officiating the 2025 Betong Division Civil Servants’ Dinner at the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall here on Saturday.

The Bukit Saban assemblyman also urged civil servants to remain well-informed about all government policies and initiatives.

“I was very pleased when the Sarawak Basic Necessities Contribution (SKAS) was implemented, which required the use of SPay Global.

“However, once we realised there were difficulties in using the e-wallet, government agencies and departments were instructed to conduct training and provide guidance so that the public could use it effectively.

“That is why I urge all civil servants to stay informed, to deeply understand and clearly explain all government policies and initiatives to the people.

“Just as before, the government depends on you to implement them, each in your respective roles,” he said.

Uggah also said the dinner event showed appreciation for all civil servants in the Betong Division, led by Resident Richard Michael Abunawas.

“Thank you, all of you have performed your duties excellently.

“Betong is now developing rapidly. People’s lives are improving, incomes are increasing.

“This is all thanks to your contributions in ensuring that all development programmes proceed smoothly,” he added.

The event also celebrated 45 retiring civil servants, while 27 others were recognised for their transfer to new postings.
