SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch’s development and community chief Kelvin Lau Kor Jie has applauded the prompt action taken by the Sarawak Rural District Council (SRDC) to repair the roads in Bawang Assan.
Lau was happy that the council had responded to requests from the residents to repair a section of the road in the Lebaan area that has potholes, and another road in Sungai Empawah that has sunk.
He said that the residents in both areas have sent applications to SRDC to repair these roads.
“I have seen them wading through flood water and this was extremely inconvenient to them to go about their business.
“I am happy the council had heard their plight and had wasted no time in filling the potholes and raising the sunken road,” he said in a statement today.
Lau, who is also SRDC councillor, said that his team regularly conducts door-to-door visits in the area.
“During one of our visits, I saw residents dealing with floodwaters. Those affected subsequently appealed to SRDC through me to repair the roads.
“Our team promptly responded by taking pictures to show the poor condition of the roads, gathering information from the residents, and assisting them in making their requests. We worked together,” he said.
He stressed that his team is committed to improving the lives of the community effectively.
“This is the reason why we invite the residents to be a part of our development team.
“Together with the council members and community leaders, we collaborate with the government towards finding solutions to the residents’ issues,” he added.
