LUNDU: Lundu District Council (MDL) councillors have been exhorted to uphold integrity-driven leadership to serve as role models for the local community.
MDL Chairman, Awang Yusup Awang Mostapha, said this is crucial to ensure that municipal services and infrastructure development are delivered at the highest standard to benefit the people.
He also stated that the council will work towards realising its vision of transforming Lundu into a natural coastal town by boosting the tourism economy, particularly through community-based tourism (C-BET) with the involvement of Community Zones.
“This, in turn, supports the Premier of Sarawak’s policy under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which emphasises environmental conservation alongside the enhancement of the tourism economy sector.
“As Sarawak aims to become a developed state by 2030, council members are urged to contribute to the formulation of policies that support this goal,” he said in his speech during the council’s swearing-in ceremony held today.
He further noted that MDL has recorded an increase in property tax collection, and called on council members to think more creatively in recovering tax arrears.
“I am very grateful to the Lundu District Council management for achieving an outstanding performance in collecting overdue revenue,” he added.
Earlier, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian officiated the swearing-in of 32 MDL members for the term from April 1 2025 to March 31 2028, with Awang Yusup reappointed as the Chairman.
