KOTA SAMARAHAN: Two students have been apprehended for allegedly assaulting another student in front of a school last Tuesday.
The incident came to light when a 19-second video clip depicting the assault went viral on Facebook.
Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Brodie Brangka said that the victim had filed a police report at 1.08 am yesterday (Nov 29).
Acting on the information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) successfully detained two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, at around 10 am.
The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
Conviction under Section 323 may result in a prison term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. Meanwhile, Section 506 provides for a prison term of up to two years, a fine, or both.
Brodie stated that further investigations are underway, and the investigation papers will be referred to the Sarawak State Attorney General’s Chambers for further instructions.
In light of this, the public are advised to refrain from making speculative or negative comments on social media that could cause annoyance.
