KUCHING: Police arrested a local man for allegedly carrying an imitation pistol in a video clip that went viral on social media.
The eight-second video clip depicted the man cycling along Jalan Tun Jugah while holding an object believed to be a pistol.
Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the 36-year-old suspect was picked up at around 4.05 pm at Jalan Tun Jugah.
“Also seized from him was an imitation pistol, a bicycle and a bag of cash.
“The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term of up to one year, or both, upon conviction,” he said.
Police have urged witnesses to provide any information related to the incident by contacting Insp Nasyirah Kisun at 016-8284373 or the Kuching police operations centre at 082-244444.
Mohd Farhan also reminded the public that possession or carrying of imitation firearms is an offence under the Arms Act 1960.
He further advised against sharing the viral video as it could cause public nuisance or unrest.
