KUCHING: Police are investigating and monitoring the activities of Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISB) allegedly being carried out in the state.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata revealed that they have been monitoring their activities for some time.
“We are still monitoring and conducting investigations into the matter.
“We are also gathering intelligence as we have identified their operations and locations,” he said when met by reporters this morning.
To date, no arrests have been made and no police reports have been received on the case in Sarawak.
Mancha added that Sarawak police are working closely with Bukit Aman on the investigation.
GISB is now the focus of a police investigation after raids were conducted on 20 welfare homes allegedly linked to the group.
Last week’s major operation dubbed ‘Op Global’ saw 402 local minors, aged between one and 17, rescued from alleged exploitation across Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
Police said the victims had endured various forms of exploitation and abuse, including being sodomised.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told the New Straits Times (NST) last Saturday, that GISB has been on the police watch list since 2011 and the coordinated raids of the homes were the culmination of a six-month probe to gather intelligence, build a case and formulate an action plan.
Razarudin also said the Anti-Money Laundering Criminal Investigation (AMLA) Unit was probing the private Muslim conglomerate’s finances.
GISB had since denied the allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.
