Cop suffers injuries in hit-and-run

KUCHING: A policeman from the Kuching mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit suffered severe injuries following an alleged hit-and-run by a motorcycle yesterday.
 
It was reported that the accident happened around 1.30am at Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub.
 
Kuching deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa in a statement said the victim was carrying out his duties and inspected a car prior to the accident.
 
“An unidentifiable motorcycle ridden by two men later hit the victim from behind.

“They did not stop the motorcycle after that and sped off towards the Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub roundabout,” he said, adding the victim was promptly rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) by his colleague.
 
According to the doctors, the victim suffered a fractured left wrist and is still receiving treatment.
 
Merbin added that efforts to locate the individuals responsible for the accident, are ongoing.
 
The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving, which carries a fine up to RM10,000 and a jail term up to 12 months, if convicted.
