KUCHING: Thirty groups competed in the 5th Maggi Cukup Rasa Cooking Competition 2018 at the MBKS (Kuching South City Council) Community Hall here yesterday.
The competition was jointly organised by Saberkas Batu Lintang Branch and Women Section of Hui Sing Garden Community Association.
The official opening ceremony was graced by UPP (United People’s Party) Advisor Dr Chou Chii Ming who represented International Trade and E-Commerce Minister and Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.
“Congratulations to the organiser for advocating such a good and successful event to the community. Your competition has always attracted many participants who represent the different cooking skills and styles of various races, “Socially, your competition has effectively promoted racial harmony and an exchange of food tastes for the various races of our people,” said Wong in his speech read by Chou.
Wong also suggested that the committee compile the prize-winning entries in each competition with pictures and recipes.
“By doing so, the recipes can be passed on to many people for them to enjoy such good and tasty food,” he said.
Wong also announced an MRP (Minor Rural Project) grant to the competition committee to assist it to promote the competition to the society.
Meanwhile, organising chairman Kapitan Patrick Tan said next year, the committee was targeting at least 50 groups for the competition.
“Thanks to the participants for joining this competition and thanks also to the others for supporting it and making it a success,” he said.
